The Glory of God

I remember doing a Beth Moore bible study some time ago. And I remember in the workbook, she wanted us to get an understanding, to the best of our human ability, of what is God’s glory.

From what I recall, she had us read over a few scriptures that talked about His glory, and yet, as she pointed out, we still struggled to fully define it; simply because God and His glory, is so much bigger than us and our finite understanding.

Today, while I don’t recall which scriptures she had us look over, I’d like to share some scriptures with you that I’ve found, that speak on the glory of God; to give you a glimpse of what is His glory, as best as we can understand it.

Because if you don’t have even a smidgen of an understanding of why His glory is so valuable, you’ll never have the wisdom to really comprehend why you absolutely should not live one day without it.

·      His Presence: Then the cloud [the Shekinah, God’s visible, dwelling presence] covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory and brilliance of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Moses was not able to enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud remained on it, and the glory and brilliance of the Lord filled the tabernacle (Exodus 40:34-34amp).

When we fail to live our lives with and for Jesus, forfeiting His glory, we also forfeit God’s presence, working in our lives and in our favor. With the absence of His presence, there is also the absence of His power and His wisdom.

·      His Son: The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven (Hebrews 1:3).

Jesus, the Son of God, the Savior of the world, is the radiance of God’s glory. Without Jesus, our perfect example of how to live, we lack the knowledge, the wisdom, and the understanding needed to live the life God created us to live.

·      His Radiance: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Without the presence of God’s glory in our lives, we miss the opportunity to be transformed into His image, from glory to glory. Simply put, we remain the same. We don’t grow, and we don’t become the version of ourselves that He created us to be.

·      His Honor: “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols” (Isaiah 42:8).

In the ESV Study Bible, it reads, “…My glory I give to no other. God must discredit all idols to receive his proper honor. He is not one of many; he is not superior among inferior gods; he is not even the best of all; he is the only God, and he will have his people know and rejoice in this truth…” Isaiah 42:8-9).

God’s glory encompasses His honor. Honoring God is to acknowledge and revere the truth that He is the one true living God; that there is no one above Him, beside Him, or under Him. Without the acknowledgement and understanding of this truth, we miss knowing God, and we miss the fulfillment of His glory in our lives.

God’s glory is invaluable. God’s glory at work in a human life is immeasurable. And the only way to access it is through His Son, Jesus. If you want to live the high life, a life you truly love, the glory of God in your life isn’t optional, it’s a necessity.

Peace be with you, today and always.
